Profile of the Department

The Department of Zoology at Pithapuram Government Degree College was established to provide quality education in the field of biological sciences. The department is committed to imparting fundamental and applied knowledge of Zoology, equipping students with practical skills relevant to research, industry, and local employment opportunities.

The college was initially functioning on the premises of RRBHR Government Junior College since its establishment in 2008. However, it was relocated to a new campus on December 11, 2024. Recognizing the importance of laboratory-based learning, the Zoology Laboratory is gradually being upgraded with essential equipment to enhance practical training.

Located in East Godavari district, the region is known for its rich aquaculture and nursery units, providing students with opportunities for hands-on learning and research in fisheries, marine biology, and environmental sustainability. The department takes responsibility for bridging the gap between academics and local employment opportunities, ensuring that students are well-prepared for careers in aquaculture, fisheries, environmental conservation, and zoological research.

The department is currently led by a dedicated faculty member B. Ahmad Ali Baba, who joined on August 2, 2023, bringing expertise and a commitment to academic excellence.
